Pokemon: Travel with David

"Well..." you say. David looks at you with something like apprehension in his eyes. "Sure. Let's go to Viridian City together."
"Sweet!" He says. You're not sure what you've just done, but David seems like a pretty okay guy. He doesn't seem... mean or anything, he sounds like a pretty nice guy who was caught in a rough situation. And, I mean, it would be pretty nice to travel with someone, at least to Viridian City. Maybe it'll be a good thing. You look down at Charmander, who doesn't seem to mind the new travelling partner, and is instead picking the small flowers that grow in the grass. David was already walking down the path toward Viridian. Geez, this guy.
You jog to catch up with him, and Charmander trots along in front of you two, when you finally can walk in stride with David. Charmander seems very curious, and you and David have to pause every few steps so he can explore something that he sees, be it a bit of dirt that's been displaced, or a tree. David doesn't seem to mind, and you don't either.
You know that the path to Viridian City is not a particularly tough one. It's about an half hour away, forty-five minutes at this rate. You're really starting to get out of town, as the last few houses of Pallet fade away into what's behind you, and the path leads upwards. There's going to be a hill to climb to get to Viridian, but it's not going to be hard. Maybe you'll even spot a few Pokémon along the way. After all, you do have five Pokéballs. You could easily start making a team here...
"So hey, that was your first battle, wasn't it?" David says. You were so busy thinking about the possible combinations to go with Charmander that you'd nearly forgotten that David was there.
"Yeah."
"Congrats on the win then, man. Did you get Charmander today, then? I know there was that little ceremony thing going on with Professor Oak."
"Yep. First day, first win."
"Hm... Are you a little old to get a starter Pokémon... or a little tall?"
You shrug your shoulders. "I guess. I don't think too much of it."
"Right. Okay. I don't either. I was just wondering." David and you walk a little further in the quite stillness of the mid-morning. Charmander is still scoping out what's around the pathway. "So like. What do you want to do, then? Like, do you want to fill the Pokédex? Do you want to beat all the gym leaders? Do you want to become a gym leader?"
You hadn't thought much of what you wanted to do, actually. So far, you were just along for the ride. But each option that David gave you was a very interesting and a very real goal that you could accomplish. You could fill the Pokédex-there are so many Pokémon and there are some that no one has ever seen before. In that way, you could be an explorer of new regions. Or you could be like Professor Oak and learn about Pokémon in the scientific sense. You could beat all of the gym leaders and prove how much you know about Pokémon. Or you could become a gym leader. The options were endless.
