After all how hard could it be to find someone dressed as oddly as that freak?
You wander around, asking everyone you pass if they've seen anyone odd pass by. Eventually it pays off.
"Oh, that man. I saw him run off towards the lake. Is there some kind of circus in town or something?"
You immediately make a beeline for the north entrance, not even thanking the person, and stop before the edge of the thick forest separating Twinleaf Town from the rest of Sinnoh. You've been to the lake several times, but were always accompanied by your mother, who was an accomplished trainer. Forests like these were always filled with wild Pokémon, some friendly, some not so much.
If you had Chimchar you wouldn't have worried, but now you aren't so sure.
