The black ball encompasses the Valefar, and wraps around it. As the black stuff blows away from it, you can see it has dealt great damage from the way the Valefar is moving.

It lifts it self off the ground, flapping all four of its wings and gives you a glare with his blood red eyes, which were completely black before.
