Chapter 39: Still a villain
"You have a point, Alma...but I can't go back. I exist for revenge, and I will have it."
Your heart sinks as you tense, looking at Lunis nervously. He could summon demons at any moment, and you have little way to stop him from this distance. Alma might, but she wouldn't hurt her adoptive uncle.
"Listen. The best I can do for you, Alma, is to promise not to kill those people. They'll be caged for life, but they'll be treated decently...and I will give the guards the demons mutilated proper burials. Is that enough to assuage your honor, boy?"
You gasp as he turns to a tapestry, flinging it aside to reveal Bryon and Li'a, both in shock.
"How-!" Bryon stammers.
"Do you think me that ignorant of my surroundings? It doesn't matter, though. I'll order the demons to be...more restrained from now on. But that's all you get."
"Wait! There's no way I'll let you take Lady Li'a's powers from her!"
"I doubt you can stop me," Lunis growled, his hand starting to raise.
"No! Please!" Li'a cringes, her hands swept forward and her power ready to defend her and Bryon if needed.
"Uncle Lunis, stop!" Alma screams, her sword out, suddenly dropping from numb fingers as Lunis spits out a word of binding, freezing all of you in place. He slowly approaches the houri, lifting her and staring into her frightened eyes.
