You grab your notebook and some table space and get to work. A time machine, that's the easy part; but what type? After a little thought you decide on something small, like a ring or a bracelet - it would be easy to conceal. Next: radiation, psychic, or quantum? You do a couple of preliminary sketches for each mechanism. Psychic appears to be the easiest to implement, if you can just figure out the machine-brain interface ...
"Hi."
You just about jump out of your chair. Emily and Trevor are smiling at you.
"You really got to work fast!" Trevor sits down beside you while Emily leans over, giving you a partial view of her cleavage. "Emily got her proposal done last week, and I'm still trying to come up with something. But I did have one thought."
You look over curiously. At least it stops Emily's unconscious reminder of what you haven't got.
"Emily is building an intelligence amplifier device, and it looks like whatever you're doing needs a brain-machine interface." He starts absent-mindedly rubbing your back, sending tingles all up and down your spine.
"I think if we work together, we could kick all the other people and groups in the ass and really make some waves! What do you think?"
