You follow the left corridor to a spiral staircase heading down into the earth. The stairs twist around and around and around. You stop counting at one hundred steps, but it keeps going, deeper and deeper. You must be nearly half a mile below the surface when the staircase finally opens out into a giant cavern. Unlike the other rooms in the labyrinth, this one is not made of stone bricks placed by hand. This cavern was carved by running water over eons, the ceiling studded by stalactites in shades of brown and bronze and cream and red.
You're standing at the edge of a huge lake, the dark water lapping against the smooth stone floor. In the middle of the lake, about a hundred yards from where you're standing, you see a small stone island with a treasure chest upon it. If you've made it this far, you know that there something guarding that chest, and you have a pretty good hunch that whatever it is is probably watching you from beneath the surface of the lake.
