You wake up lying in the hotel room bed, naked on top of the covers. It takes a few minutes for you to open your eyes. You somehow feel heavy, sluggish, but lighter than air at the same time.
You stare at the ceiling, not having expected to see it again. Then you spot something out of the corner of your eye.
A woman sits in a chair near the bed. She has long black hair, she's thin with pale skin stretched over her features. Gaunt but beautiful. She wears a black dress with a skull mask hanging at her waist.
"Did you save me?" You ask her.
"That's one way of putting it." She says. She points toward the foot of the bed.
You look where she's pointing. Your naked body hangs from the ceiling fan in the middle of the room. "Wh... what? Is that..."
"That's your body. Sorry. If we were allowed to interfere with the physical world here I would have saved you." She says. A pair of black feathered wings unfold from behind her. "You were going to commit suicide, but you changed your mind. Still, here you are. My job is to take you to Purgatory, but I thought I should talk to you here first. My name is Artelia."
"Purgatory?" You ask.
"Yeah. Between Heaven and Hell. You're kinda neutral, so you have to go to Purgatory first. From there you can get to Heaven or Hell if you like. Purgatory is nice, you could always just stay there. Hell isn't that bad either, a little warm, but it's not the pit of eternal torture everyone thinks it is. Heaven is a bit difficult to get into, and kinda overcrowded anymore. But I'm not a tour guide, I'm just here to take you across. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Well, I can let you stay here as a ghost, for a price. I can't guarantee that's the best option but plenty of people just want me to let them stay, so I figure I'll give you the option as long as you're willing to give me something in return." She winks.
