I really didn't want to go. I put my keys back and opened up the banking app on my phone. Lauren had plenty of money, why was she working for peanuts? She might enjoy working for small change, but I didn't. I picked up my phone and called the bar.

The manager, Mark, picked up the phone.

"Hi, Mark," I said. "I'm really not feeling too well, and don't think I should come in today."

"Lauren, is that you?" he asked. "This is your fourth call-out in two weeks. You can't keep this up."

Apparently Lauren didn't take the job very seriously either. "I quit then," I said.

He seemed taken by surprise, "Okay then," he said. "Goodbye."

I felt so free! I just ended a relationship and terminated my employment! Nothing can hold me back!
