Go to the gym hall and find out what the noise was

After a second the thudding noise stops but it was definitely coming from the gym hall, although you are slightly scared you are extremely curious, so you walk drown the long corridor and slowly push open the door that leads to the stairs that go down to the gym hall. You stand for a second holding the door open and look down the dark stairwell and think about turning back but just then You hear the noise again.
Thud * thud * thud *
Then stops.
You jump back feeling frightened. What the hell is that you wonder. You take a moment and think do you really want to go down there?
