Enter the cave with Duran and the rest of the guard

You file into the cave, two abreast. The cavern is extensive, and despite the far off, faint glow, you are obliged to light torches less than a dozen paces in. Geode like crystals grow from the cave walls in places, and are of a purple-blue color. No kobolds are to be found; in fact, there is relatively little evidence of their activity, despite the obvious trail they left outside the cave.

There is an eerie feeling that the cave itself might be alive. It becomes obvious that the faint bluish glow is coming from within the crystals; they give off an air of listening. Duran and the rest of your guard are reduced to using hand-signals to communicate.

Around the next bend in the cave, your party comes upon a large chamber. Resting on a bed of crystals is a large serpent, glowing with the same hue as the crystals. The serpent appears to be sleeping, its two multicolored wings wrapped across the luminescent geodes surrounding its throne.

Duran throws some quick hand signals to his men, and they quietly draw swords, surrounding the serpent. It's clear they mean to massacre the wyrm in its sleep. Looking above, you see a strange rune carved into one of the largest crystals, full of intricate geometric patterns. A sense of foreboding dread fills your chest. On the other hand, there's no telling what this creature might do if it were to awaken now, or later and come following your carriage.
