D&D: Two of the ruffians walk up to you and ask a question

"Hey you there, mage" two ruffians come at you. "Um, yes?" you question, hoping to get out of this quickly. "Do you know where the Ikob is ? He went into that room and didn't come out. Crap, they're talking about the mage you killed. "No, i didn't see anyone over there" you play off

"Damn it, where did that useless bastard go ? Anyways you best report to the boss about our progress, tell him we almost finished exploring the lower levels and give her this" he says, handing you multiple sheets of paper inscribed with numbering and detailed layabout of multiple levels alongside some warning inscriptions. This must be a map to the entire tower, well some details on the lower levels aren't finished but with this you have a mostly clear way to get around.

Something loud and shrills rings out and echoes through the room, rest of the people in the room leave what they were doing and start heading of north. "Looks like we're all reporting to the boss, lets go lads". With no choice you trail after them until they all reach a fork and goes north. There is also a way to the east blocked by a door and you can sense a powerful magical signature behind it. Walking over you turn the handle but it's locked, while you contemplate whether to use your magic to force the door open a voice rings out "hey where did that mage woman go ? She was just here a second ago".

Looks like the noticed your absence, if you were to follow them to their destination you could find out what they're after but going into a middle of armed group with possible magicians among them is dangerous especially if one of them can tell that you're a fake. You could also use the maps you were handed and try to find the gold wand that lead you to the tower or open this door using magic
