Your foxhole is sufficient, and the metal object below is probably a shallow-buried power line that would be more than enough to fry you, so you leave it alone. You start mounding the dirt up at the sides, creating a reinforced crater for you to live in.
"This is better than Mommy and Daddy's house," you imagine. "I'm going to live out here forever. I've got bugs to eat, and my shoes are nearby. What more could you want?"
Later on in the evening, you feel a drop of rain, and another. A few drops soon gives way to a torrential downpour, and within minutes, your foxhole is buried.
As if things couldn't get any worse, you see a bird emerge from the creek bank with your shoe in tow. The giant African swallow soars high into the air with your shoe, and disappears on the horizon.
You elect to travel onward without shoes.
