You don't want to provoke them, though, so you just sit tight and hope for successful negotiations.
"Commander, there they are!" Your science officer spots a glint of light above the horizon of the enormous cargo ship. Everyone is very tense. It is too late to ask Kij to shoot them. You are at the mercy of these unknown entities.
One of them comes along side your shuttle. The comms unit lights up with a plain text message that says, "Please open your hatch and allow us to come aboard."
