Pay Attention

“I did pay good money to be here,” you think to yourself, “or at least I will pay good money, some day, so I might as well pay attention.”

You take out a notepad too, and look down at your “clicker.” It looks like a remote control. You’ve never used one before but you’ve heard that professors use it to conduct in-class surveys and pop quizzes. As you are examining your clicker and turn it on a guy about your age sits in a seat to your right, closest to the aisle. Although there’s a seat between you and him, if this class turns out to suck, then you’re kind of trapped.

Click, click, click, click.

You look up as you hear the heels of the professor taping as he walks across the stage of the lecture hall to the podium.

Bam, bam, bam

He raps on the podium loudly to get the student’s attention.

“Today we are going to embark on a social experiment,” he announces. “It’s a ‘choose your own adventure’ of sorts to challenge our understanding of real life choices people have to make in difficult situations.”

“In the following game, you will have 3 goals,” he explains.

“Rule number one – stay alive”

“Rule number two – gain physical health points”

“Rule number three – gain mental health points”

You look around wondering if anyone else knew this was coming. It sounds pretty silly to you... but then it beats a lecture.

Do you ...
