Terry

Background

Terry Bogard is the son of Jeff Bogard and the brother of Andy Bogard. The majority of his life has been spent in Southtown, USA, a town that he has recently learned is fictional. It was during his childhood that he saw his father, Jeff, get killed at the hands of Geese Howard. Rather than seeking revenge immediately, he decided that he would do it at a later point in his life.

The revenge itself eventually came when Terry sent Geese falling off the edge of Geese Tower. Rather than allowing Geese’s son, Rock, to fall into unfortunate hands, Terry raised him on his own.

However, after Rock grew up, and Southtown was rebuilt (as Geese had destroyed it), both Rock and Geese entered a tournament held by Kain R. Heinlein. Heinlein happened to be Rock’s uncle, and at the end of the tournament, Rock went with him, as he desired to find a part of his family. It was during the time that Rock was away with Kain that both Rock and Terry showed up at Purgatory.

In Purgatory

Terry arrived at Purgatory and immediately became known for his easy-going attitude and his friendly disposition. Within his second day, he had a job, his place set up, and Rock was moving back in with him. He ended up having a gathering with a number of people there, as he wanted to get to know a large number of Rock’s friends (as Rock did come to the island before him).

Since then, he has broken his arm in the Death Eaters incident, tried to help Rock get himself together, and has recently become concerned about the fact that there are, in fact, people coming back from the dead. After all, what if Geese is next? He's holding back from informing Rock that they are fictional, that there is no semblance of their world in this world, simply because he believes Rock has to find things out for himself. He's quite pleased that Rock has a girlfriend (that girlfriend being Kairi), but he does worry that she will hurt him. Terry has spent so much of his life alone or with the single cub, so to speak, by his side. Expanding his horizons has put him on the line a little, and allowing people to possibly hurt Rock hurts him.

Since Rock and Terry have a tendency to bring in stragglers (Kurt and Abby among them), they acquired a larger house. Terry worked to help support the other people while still enjoying CNN (something he never thought he'd enjoy, but he realizes he does because it makes him aware of all that he can't fix in this world, almost as if it's a masochistic tool) and video games. He feels his age and he often feels that he'll never be able to make everything perfect for Rock, no matter how hard he tries.

After a time of Rock being incapable of growing up, Terry chose to leave the home so that the boy would learn to depend on himself. Terry couldn't be the person he wanted to depend on. He had been it for far too long, and it was too different from his normal lifestyle--a lifestyle where he wandered and moved. He moved to a hotel where he stayed for a while. His only visitor for the longest time has been Mai, and for a while, the two have been growing increasingly closer. He's starting to realize that leaving has offered him what he needed: a chance to be happy about the things that make him happy. He's oblivious to the fact that because he's growing happier, he's growing more attractive to Mai.

As the tournament approaches, Terry knows he'll be moving back home.
