Mitsukuni Haninozuka grew up in a prestigious martial artist family, and form a young age he and his brother did their best to please their father by winning many championships. He was a strong, tough young man, however he had a secret passion for cute things.
It wasn't until his second year of attendance at Ouran Academy that Suoh Tamaki convinced Hunny that being true to what makes a person happy shows more strength than living a lie, and Hunny left the Karate Club and joined the Host Club as the "shota type", despite the horror of his brother and family.
Though he is actually eighteen, Hunny's small stature and penchant for cakes and stuffed animals makes him seem very young. He calls everyone by affectionate nicknames – except Mori, who he calls by his last name (and vice versa) showing their mutual respect for one another. Mori is actually Hunny's cousin, however his ancestors were the noble servants of Hunny's and that blood appears to remain as Mori shows great loyalty to (and protectiveness of) Hunny during the series, treating him like a beloved son or little brother. The two are barely separate, and Mori's silence is offset by Hunny's cheerful clamour. Both boys grew up together and excel in school and fighting tournaments, and now they draw in ladies to the Host Club as a duo – many girls find Hunny cute and Mori's interactions with him soften his stoic appearance.
Hunny has a very manipulative side – indeed, while he does love cake more than he loves his brother, a lot of his 'naturally cute' actions are pre-planned and he is not afraid to use his cuteness to get what he wants (for example, sweets when he has a toothache.) Hunny is also dangerous, as he is still the number one martial artist in Japan, and he is very protective of his friends and possessions. If he wakes up early Hunny is usually in a bad temper and can say spiteful things that conflict with his normal character. Otherwise he's usually very good-natured and cheerful, striving to make everyone get along.
He seems to be the only Host Club member without the slightest romantic inclinations towards Haruhi. Instead he treats her more like a big sister (and enjoys when she is dressed in a feminine manner purely because she is so "kawaii!") He can be very preceptive regarding the other Hosts feelings towards Haruhi, however, and was able to tell of both Hikaru and Tamaki's latent affection for her.
Hunny carries around a pink rabbit called Bun-bun. He also seems to have ADHD. :D
