Gaara

From Canonwars

Gaara (15 January) is one of the Sandnin who comes in and infiltrates the Chuunin exams in Naruto. For a time, he's known as a homicidal maniac, but after being brought down by Naruto as he tried to kill his friend Sakura, he successfully managed to gain a new outlook on life. After all, there was someone else who understood his plight.

Background

Gaara was meant to be a killer. Unlike his siblings, he was raised to not love, not have any feeling, and he never thought of either of his siblings in an affectionate way. Perhaps he didn't know how, but also, perhaps, he didn't want to—his one brush of love turned out to be someone who resented him, and thus, he decided it wasn't worth it. Gaara only knew love for himself, and he only knew that a monster twisted and turned inside of him. If he didn't kill everyone in his path, he wouldn't be able to achieve what he wanted in the world, or so his young mind believed. Everyone hurt him, got in his way, and if he wanted to go after someone, he would inevitably kill that person.

It was this Gaara, who never allowed himself to be touched or marred when he fought, that entered the Chuunin exams the same year as Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and several others. In the end, Gaara ended up making it to the final round and in the fight between him and Sasuke, hell broke loose. Though Sasuke hurt him, he could not bring him down, and the fight was taken away. Gaara eventually transformed into the monster inside of him and threatened to kill Sakura if Naruto didn't fight him. Naruto ended up fighting him and he won. At the end of the battle, he told Gaara that he understood the pain of loneliness and that they were the same type of people (which was true, as they both had monsters inside of them). In the rescue mission for Sasuke before the time jump, Gaara and his siblings show up and Gaara is rather kind to Rock Lee. He brings down one of the followers of Orochimaru with considerable ease and he remarks upon Naruto.

After the time jump, Gaara is the Kazekage of the Hollow Sands and is still a lonely and feared individual. Akatsuki comes and captures him and inevitably kills him, but Naruto and Chiyo, at the end of all of it, bring him back. Chiyo dies and Naruto is part of the chakra that brought Gaara back. Gaara, who wanted nothing more than to make people revere him and not fear him, who wanted love, ends up having a chance for it in this definitive moment, especially as he no longer has the monster thrashing around inside of him and turning him into a worrying force.

In Purgatory

Gaara arrived and stayed with Sakura for some time before he ended up finding himself interacting with Naruto once more. He talked to Naruto for a little bit, and before long--even by the next day--Naruto asked Gaara to come and move in with him. Reluctant to give up the opportunity to live with someone he respected deeply, Gaara moved in with Naruto. The two boys did their best to act like manly men. Rather, Naruto did his best and Gaara did his part to remain as logical as possible, as he knew anything else might have worked against them.

His sister, Temari, has arrived, and she has moved in with them. Sasuke has made some shots toward Gaara and so has Deidara, but Gaara is not worrying about it entirely much. He is worried about protecting those he cares about and does not wish to antagonize someone unnecessarily.

His brother, Kankurou, has also arrived.

Gaara has made friends with Chase Stein, and indirectly, Yorick Brown. He's not allowed to leave the house very often, but does it whenever he has a chance. He lives in a larger place with Naruto, Sakura, Temari, and Kankurou.
