BWBooks: Kari's Big Lie

From Bubblegum Wiki

Kari was feeling restless. "School is almost over, and I haven't got any real fun", she complained.

"You're a fussy little sister", replied Josh. "We're not here to have fun. We're here to learn." Well, that didn't make Kari feel any better.

"Hand signals is really useful", Nancy taught.

Josh and Kari had almost reached the end of the school bell when she saw the brooch on the desk. There was nothing Kari loved more than a brooch. Oh, how she would love to get one!

"I know", thought Kari. "I'll get up very early tonight and go out to take the brooch from the desk before the grand opening."

The next morning, Kari awoke and sneaked out of her bed.

"Oh, no!' cried Kari. She closed her eyes and did her best to catch the brooch. Crash! The Brooch flew out of her hands and was smashed to bits.

When Kari got back to her bed, She was worried.

"Someone must have broken my brooch that was on my desk." Nancy said. "How could such a thing have happened, Kari?"

"Aunt Nancy, it's Josh!" they cried, and told a lie to Nancy.

Nancy scolded Josh. "Kari will run your errands until you've gone and checked every hand signal in my class!"

"Oh, Josh! I'm so sorry, Josh", Kari sputtered. "I'm sorry I told a lie"

"You've been broke her brooch, Kari", he said. " "I just got framed because of the lies you said to Aunt Nancy."

"There would be no errands for you if you get in an accident."

That night, Kari was being loaded for her errands when a call came in the station. Rain had washed out a section of track on the mail route. Percy would have to find the way around. "Don't worry, Kari", Aunt Nancy smiled. "You can take the new branch line." Off Percy went, pulling two cars loaded with mail.

The rain fell heavenly. Each time Percy saw a red signal lamp, he slowed carefully until he had passed the dangerous spot. Then suddenly, in the dark, Percy passed another signal. The lamp was not lit, so he didn't see it until too late. Her arm was broken, for danger! Kari slammed on her brakes, but the rain made the tracks slippery. And there it was ahead-a very dangerous fall.

The seasons were changing on the Island of Sodor. The leaves had begun to change color, and the air was growing crisp. Thomas the Tank Engine was feeling restless. "Visitation is over, and I haven't got say any sympathy to Kari", he complained.

We're opening a new visitation tomorrow", he told them. "I need you to check the signals on the new line to see they're all working properly. Who will volunteer?"
