10: Loyalty

1. Cherish your relationships for they

2. last forever; all your hoarded wealth will not.

3. For this reason, love your friends with a

4. fierce loyalty, and be ready to die for them.

5. One’s loyalty and commitment towards

6. a friendship takes precedence over all

7. other duties and beliefs.

Commentary: This book praises friendships because while relationships could last forever, material possessions come and go and have no permanent value. The friendship described here is meant to mean the close friendship between some people that is almost like brotherhood. Friendships and relationships in general should be treasured and the utmost effort should be expended on their maintenance. Loyalty in a time of shifting loyalties to a close friend is the greatest attribute a person can have.
