Spider-Man, directed by Sam Raimi, follows Peter Parker as he is bitten by a genetically engineered "super-spider", which causes him to take on the traits of a spider. Following the murder of his uncle, Peter devotes his life to fighting crime. Norman Osborn, in an attempt to save his company, experiments with human performance-enhancing drugs. The drugs cause Norman to go insane, and he dons the mantle of the Green Goblin. When Spider-Man refuses to join the Green Goblin, the two face off against each other in an epic battle.

Peter and Mary Jane Watson are now dating. Meanwhile Peter's college professor, Dr. Curt Conners attempts to regenerate his lost arm with the use of an injection made from Lizard DNA. However, it goes horribly wrong, trasnforming him into a reptillain humanoid. While the Lizard is one one of his rampages, he distracts electrician, Max Dillon while working on a telephone pole accidentally electrocuting himself with his own electricity spools, transforming him into a walking electrical capacitor.

  • Tobey MaGuire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man: Peter Parker is a studious, intelligent high school student (and later college student) who was bitten by a genetically enhanced "super spider" that gave him extroadinary powers; common traits of a spider. He uses these powers to stop crime and help the city of New York under the secret alias known as "Spider-Man".

  • Kirsten Dunst as Mary-Jane Watson: Peter's best friend whom he is secretly, deeply in love with. After high school, "MJ" becomes an actress on broadway, which she is later fired from and is hired as a waitress at a local jazz club. Mary-Jane is one of the few people who know Spider-Man's real identity. Later on in the series, Peter and MJ start a relationship together.
  • James Franco as Harry Osborn: Another friend of Peter's and son of founding member of Oscorp, Norman Osborn, who is actually the Green Goblin. After Norman's death in the first film, Harry is constantly trying to discover the real identity of Spider-Man so he can take out his revenge. In Spider-Man 3, Harry discovers Peter is Spider-Man but decides to help him defeat Sandman, Vulture and Venom and save Mary-Jane's life by using his father's equipment for the better of mankind. He is killed by Venom by the end of the film.
  • [[Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy: Gwen is the daughter of Mayor George Stacy, the mayor of New York, a classmate of Peter's and a magazine model.
