Groups.msn.com/Mississlippy

From Wikislippy

groups.msn.com/Mississlippy (d. 2007) was an internet site hosted for free by Microsoft. It was not so much as a site as it was more than just a website. The site focused on user activity. Users could submit jokes, pictures, and more.

[edit] Creation

groups.msn.com/Mississlippy was not actually created by an official Mississlippy employee. The site was launched by Liliaku who helped launch the original Mississlippy.

[edit] Features

Some Mississlippy features were first used at groups.msn.com/Mississlippy. For example, the site had a message board. The Mississlippy message board, which is currently used as their forums, was not introduced until April of 2008.

[edit] Takeover

In 2007, groups.msn.com/Mississlippy was acquired in a hostile takeover by Microsoft. Mississlippy claims that the takeover was so hostile that there was no notice prior to the takeover. After the takeover, the site was replaced with a 404 Error saying "Page Cannot Be Found." The employees at Mississlippy originally wanted to file legal action. However, they were too lazy and just decided to move on.

The major effect of the takeover was the loss of information. The entire site was apparently deleted. This was a problem because Mississlippy relied on this site to host the pictures on the official site. After a long time, the pictures were recreated.

On October 23 2008, the MSN Groups service closed.
