Asian Studies on the Pacific Coast (ASPAC) 2008 - "Crossing Boundaries in the Asia-Pacific: Regional and Disciplinary Intersections"

-- Presented by Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives, University of Victoria

-- Location: Held at University of Victoria, David Strong Building, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

-- Date: June 13 - 15, 2008

-- Website: http://capiconf.uvic.ca/index.php?cf=3/

-- The deadline for abstract and panel submissions is April 15, 2008.

-- Asian Studies on the Pacific Coast (ASPAC) is the Pacific Rim conference of the Association for Asian Studies. Our region includes the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington; the territorial possessions of the United States in the Pacific Ocean; Mexico; and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.

-- ASPAC is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of Asia throughout this region. We do this through an annual conference, graduate student prizes, teacher training, and two publications, the ASPAC Occasional Papers series and E-AsPac, a peer-reviewed electronic journal. Begun in the late 1960s and incorporated in 1992, ASPAC is nonpolitical, nonprofit and works completely through volunteer effort.

-- ASPAC members encompass all of the traditional academic disciplines and typically have an expertise in one or more of the recognized regions of Asia North, East, Central, Southeast, South, and West Asia. Most of our annual conference participants come from colleges and universities located along the Pacific Rim, but a third or more come from elsewhere in North America, Europe and Asia. Slightly more than one in ten are senior graduate students recommended by their professors. We encourage all with an interest in Asia to attend and participate regardless of specialization or region. Paper and panel proposals involving every area of Asian studies are always welcome and encouraged.

-- This conference has been generously sponsored by The Association for Asian Studies, Office of the President, University of Victoria and Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Victoria.
