Carefully, Take One Step Forwards…

From Create Your Own Story

You carefully lower one paw into the water. Your body automatically prepares itself to follow the paw into the water... And then everything comes to a sudden stop as your paw hits something solid.

It takes your mind a few moments to wonder why nothing is wet. Somewhat dazed, you lift the paw and, discovering nothing but water underneath, try again. Once more, the paw stops upon hitting the water.

Confused, you back up and examine the errant paw.

The girl bursts out laughing. The man smiles and shakes his head at your folly.

“That is one of your abilities.” He explains. “You can walk on water.”

Interested, you step up again and place one paw onto the water. You feel a thrill as it stops short again and you manage to work up enough courage to place your other front paw onto the water. It stays above-water as well.

You let out an excited roar and you race onto the water. Ecstatic, you run around on top of the lake.

You stop and firmly plant yourself in the middle. You feel something build up inside of you and you roar again. But this time, a rainbow of colors erupts from your jaws. The beam ends up hitting the water a dozen or so feet away. Surprised, you close you mouth and the colors fade. You blink until the spots fade, then look over to the part of the lake that the pillar of color hit and stare at the area.

The lake on that side is coated in ice. Confused, you look to the shore where the two people are standing.

“That was an Aurora Beam.” The man calls over the water. “That is, what you would call, one of your attacks.”

Oh.

You trot over to the iced area and step onto the frozen water. You slip and end up hurdling forwards over the ice.

A loud creaking noise is not reassuring at all.

You feel the ice give way beneath you and you end up hurdling into the water. Right before you go under, you ponder the irony of why water was more solid under your paws then ice was.
