Decide against removing your flats, and continue hiking

From Create Your Own Story

You'd rather fight to keep your flats on than hike barefoot.

You enter the narrow portion of the trail, the mud sucking at your flats with every step. As you approach the middle of the narrow section of trail, the inevitable happens. Your right foot pops out of its shoe, and in an effort to not step barefoot in the thick mud, you overbalance yourself, and go tumbling down the embankment.

For several terrifying moments, your world spins. You bounce off a tree, before rolling to a stop at the bottom of the embankment.

You lay still for several moments, winded, before experimentally moving your arms and legs. Nothing's broken, thankfully. You carefully stand, then investigate the damage.

Your pack is gone, as are your shoes and top. Looking around, you see your pack being carried swiftly away by the creek. You didn't even know it was there until now. One of your flats is on the trail, but you have no idea where the other one was flung, and finding it will be impossible. Your tube top is nothing but a tattered rag hanging off the tree you hit on the way down. Physically, you have some scrapes and bruises, but nothing serious. You are rather muddy, however, and you take a few minutes by the creek to clean the worst of the mess off yourself, soaking your shorts in the process. The icy water hardens your nipples to diamond points.

After that, you look at the embankment. It's quite steep, and looks impossible to climb. However, this creek looks to be the one that passes by the lake you were going to. It also lets out near the other campsite, where most families go. You're not too sure which way to head. Staying put for too long is out of the question, though. You definitely don't want to die of exposure.

What do you do?
