Why Pages Are Protected
Pages may be protected due to a number of reasons:
- Visibility (Main Page)
- Vandalism
- To prevent inadventent editing (for instance, moving a page that shouldn't be moved)
- To stop editing of official pages
Types of Protection
- Full Protection (so only administrators can edit the page)
- Move Protection (so only administrators can move the page)
- Proposed Protection (not protected, but requested by a user)
How to Protect a page
Users: simply type (on the discussion page) {{pleaseprotect|TYPE REASON HERE}}
and {{protectproposal}}
on the main article page. An administrator will review your request, and protect it for you.
Admins: click the Protect tab; type {{fullprotect}}
or {{moveprotect}}
to the top of the article page.
