Why Pages Are Protected

Pages may be protected due to a number of reasons:

  • Visibility (Main Page)
  • Vandalism
  • To prevent inadventent editing (for instance, moving a page that shouldn't be moved)
  • To stop editing of official pages

Types of Protection

  • Full Protection (so only administrators can edit the page)
  • Move Protection (so only administrators can move the page)

How to Protect a page

Users: simply type (on the discussion page) {{pleaseprotect|TYPE REASON HERE}} and {{protectproposal}} on the main article page.

Admins: click the Protect tab; type {{fullprotect}} or {{moveprotect}} to the top of the article page.
