Character Synopsis

Clay, the Xiaolin Dragon of Earth, is well skilled in martial arts (specifically, Tai Chi Chuan). He almost always has a cowboy hat on. In one episode, he scolds Jack Spicer after he vomited in it. He usually gets enraged when his hat is taken or damaged (especially at the hands of Raimundo, who has at one point got Omi to see if it was a 10 gallon hat by pouring ten gallons of milk into it). He is arguably the strongest Xiaolin Dragon physically and is easily the largest. He always follows Omi's lead and is his personal backup. Clay usually uses cowboy metaphors and/or similies (e.g. "Don't close the barn door after the horses are out"), which Kimiko finds annoying and makes fun of in a few episodes. He knows how to insult a person, but he rarely uses this, just as his last resort.

Character Personality

His element is represented by his solid and unflappable disposition. Clay can be judged to be the perfect gentleman. He will not fight a woman (except for Wuya of course) and is always polite. Though it seems he has more loyalty to food than his friends, he is quite the opposite and is quite clever, despite appearing rather oafish. Clay tries to resolve situations while calm, and he finds the most easy solutions for the most complicated problems. His biggest fear is his grandmother, specifically the way she kisses him and pinches his cheeks. He never seems too interested in the role of leader, preferring to be a very strong reinforcement. Sometimes, Dojo will hide inside his cowboy hat if he's scared. Clay is very proud of Texas and on many occasions will comment on the the size and greatness of Texas. When he and the other warriors travel to the Ying-Yang World, Clay was amazed at its size even saying, "This place may be as big as Texas, although not likely."

Character history

Clay Bailey is a cowboy from San Antonio, Texas and was chosen to go to the Xiaolin Temple to train as a monk. This was at the jealousy of his sister, Jessie Bailey.

He was at one point forced to return home to his father's ranch after failing to get the Orb of Tornami from Jack. The remaining dragons went to Texas later to find the Star Hanabi, which was worn by Clay's father as a bolo tie called the "Lone Star of Texas". After it went active, Clay and the others fended off an attack by Jack Spicer, and his father, believing his son had become a man, conceded the Star to his son.

Once, Clay was possessed by Sibini, a tiny earwig-like creature, which turned him evil. Sibini was then defeated by Kimiko in a Showdown. However, his body was badly weakened after Sibini had to crawl out of his ear.

Later, Clay returned to Texas to help his friends find another Shen Gong Wu, the Sphere of Yun. Unfortunately, he ended up being tied up by his sister, who had become the head of an all-girl biker gang called The Black Vipers Motorcycle Gang. He refused constantly to fight her (he usually refuses to fight girls), but was eventually forced to compete with her in a Xiaolin Showdown for the Shen Gong Wu in which she won, but later in the episode she gave them back the Wu by air mail, but kept the Wings of Tinabi for herself.

His signature Shen Gong Wu appears to be the Fist of Tebigong and the Third-Arm Sash, which he uses the most against his enemies. He has also used the Two-Ton Tunic with great efficiency. He is not only a skilled martial artist, but he has great skill with his lasso as well; using it to snag Shen Gong Wu — and sometimes his teammates — out of mid-air. His elemental attack is Seismic Kick-Earth. His Wudai attack is Wudai Crater-Earth. He can combine his element with the Third-Arm Sash and the Fist of Tebigong. His Wudai Weapon is called Big Bang Meteorang, a boomerang that can split into multiple versions of itself when thrown and can cut almost anything (including rocks). Clay's elemental Shen Gong Wu is called the Longhorn Taurus, and when it is combined with his Wudai Weapon, it uses the power of the earth to smash enemies and can become a large blade of energy hurling through the air. At first glance, Clay may appear to be a slowpoke, yet he can move with surprising speed and agility. He also is a very good strategist, as illustrated when he fought Jack Spicer in an early Showdown, where they had to capture a bird in flight to win (Clay won by calmly luring the bird in with a hatful of sunflower seeds). Clay proves to be very supportive of Omi — in a big brother-type of way — and often comes to Kimiko's aid in battle (a by-product of his gentlemanly upbringing, no doubt). Kimiko returns the favor often, as shown during their fights with PandaBubba in China and Wuya's fortress, when she regains her body.
