Love Ain't No Fairy Tale

In retrospect, love is not at all like a fairy tale. There is no handsome price coming to take the princess or beautiful maiden away on a white horse. There's no perfect ending.
Elise hid a yawn behind her hand and stared at the man across the table. After a moment, she managed to force a smile. Flash dating was ... really, really boring. It just proved that all men who were desperate enough to flash date were sleezeballs or nerds.
The buzzer went off, and the man got up and went to the next table. Elise painted a fake smile on her face and looked up at her next flash date.
"Are you as bored as I am?" the man in front of her asked. She grinned.
"I'm tired of talking to fools. How about you?"
"I haven't met anyone with an IQ above 12. Well, until now." He grinned back at the blonde. She smirked.
He took a seat and held out his hand. "Samuel Wainwright."
"Elise Winters. It's a pleasure." She shook his hand firmly, briefly.
"No, my dear, the pleasure is mine." A pause. "What do you do for a living? I'm an architect."
"I'm a paralegal at Jacobson, Spiegel, and Carter," she says with a sigh. "I never thought I'd end up doing this much paperwork."
He gives her a sympathetic smile. "So why are you here? I hear those in the legal profession don't get much time to date."
"That's true. I'm here with a friend." She motions toward the table next to them, where a busty brunette was laughing at something a pocket-protector wearing techgeek was saying.
"That's rough. Well, since you're not really here to date, I can just let you relax a bit."
"I appreciate it, but I'm honestly more starved for intelligent conversation. You're the first I've had--I mean, that I've been able to understand."
"Well, Elise, if you'd like to meet up some Sunday when you're free..."
"That sounds lovely, Samuel." She digs in her purse for her card, and scribbles a number on the back. "I'm free this weekend. Give me a call."
"I will." He pulls out his own card and hands it to her, after circling a number on it.
"It was nice meeting you."
"You too, Elise." He flashed a toothy grin, and then got up as the buzzer sounded. Elise smiled back, and then sighed inwardly as the techgeek came towards her with a creepy smile.
A few days later, Samuel called and the two made a date. It went well, but the two only went out twice before Elise found out he was married. She was crushed.
Still... she learned something about human nature. That was the only good thing she could look back on.
