Game Story: Sonya Blade is a lieutenant in the United States Army and a member of the US Special Forces. She and her team were on the trail of the Black Dragon member, Kano, and sailed behind the ship that would lead all of them to Shang Tsung's island for the Mortal Kombat Tournament. Her team was caught by Shang Tsung's personal guard and Sonya was singled out to participate in the tournament not just for her team's freedom but for the safety of her planet.
Though she survived the tournament, she didn't win and her men were still killed. Sonya along with Kano were captured and taken to Outworld to appease the Tsung's master, the Emperor Shao Kahn and used as bait to draw the other warriors to the Realm of Outworld for another tournament. While imprisoned, Sonya was put through torture from the shadow priests in that she might join the forces of Outworld. When the Earth warriors arrived, she and Kano were forced to watch as the warriors fought for their lives in what was surely a rigged tourney.
It turned out that the tournament was really a farce to distract the warriors for Kahn to invade Earthrealm. Sonya was set free in the chaos of the tournament by her partner and fellow chosen warrior Jackson Briggs. Upon returning to Earth, they tried to warn their government of the Outworld invasion, but their warnings were turned down and while Sonya was able to train and prepare herself for the invasion, she was helpless against the coming invasion. Joining with the remaining Chosen Warriors, Sonya and her comrades fought to hold back Kahn's armies. However their small army isn't enough and the warriors are defeated. Ironically enough, the emperor was still defeated, but it was by Shang Tsung himself, turning on his own master before the Emperor decided he was of no use to him anymore. Now the ruler of both realms, Tsung has gained more power than ever. Upon discovering Sonya's body, he orders her remains back to his fortress where he calls on the ritual to have her resurrected. With Sonya revived, he recalls to her the same deal he proposed when she was imprisoned in Outworld: he will restore Earthrealm and her people, on the conditions that she marry him and stand as his queen while lording over both the Earth and Outworld. Sonya recalls the first tournament, when she had the chance to save her comrades and failed: she wouldn't fail her people now. She chose to accept Shang's proposal.
Currently they've been married for a few months, and to Sonya's surprise there haven't been any serious and physical arguments between them. Plus, there's the realization that he's starting to grow on her (though she'll never admit it out loud).
it should also be noted that this Sonya's become 'darker' than she is in game, and more cold due to her time as Outworld's Queen. She's also Shang Tsung's apprentice in sorcery and is fairly adept in learning.
current abilities are:
turning into her 'inner animal': hawk blocking her soul from being read reading and sensing a person's soul telekenesis metamorphing ( changing one object to another) chi rings in the form of projectiles
it should also be noted, that because she hasn't been using sorcery for that many years, it takes a toll on her energy if she uses too much to fast- though reading a person's soul may on occasion just give her a headache. She just prefers sorcery to 'get the job done' or to prove a point. In terms of battle, she prefers to feel blood on her hands.
