The Battle class Frigates are general purpose escort ships in service with the Royal Australian Navy, designed to provide anti-air defence, anti-surface defence, and anti-submarine defence to Australian and allied warships, and merchant convoys in wartime. They can also fulfill a ocean patrol function. The Battle class are named after famous Australian battles.

  • HMAS Tobruk (in service)
  • HMAS Long Tan (in service)
  • HMAS Coral Sea (fitting out)
  • HMAS El Alamein (building)

They are AEGIS ships, and the smallest in service. They carry the AN/SPY-1K search radar, and an Australian designed and made CEAMOUNT illuminator array.
