The Regia Aeronautica (which equates to "Royal Air Force") is the air force of Italy. It is one of the most powerful air forces in Europe and has held a prominent role in modern Italian military history. It was founded as an independent service arm on the 28th March, 1923, by King Vittorio Emanuele III. Its Aerobatic display team is the Frecce Tricolori.
