Saggsen Gadan: The Settlers of Saxony (German: Saggsen Gaden, de Säggs'schen Siedler) was released in September 2005 as the second promotional Catan scenario by Kosmos. It was designed by Klaus Teuber and developed by Peter Lemcke for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Deutsche Spielemuseum (German Game Museum), located in the Saxon capital of Chemnitz, as well as the 10th anniverary of The Settlers of Catan. 1,000 of these scenario sheets were given out to party-goers and Teuber was there to sign copies of the scenario.
Scenario Description
This expansion introduced two scenarios to the basic Catan game. Both required original Settlers pieces as well as additional cut-out pieces to play the scenarios. The game was played on a double-sided poster map with already arranged tile pieces. The game was designed in the same manner as the historical scenarios.
Saggsen Gadan
The main point of this scenario is to establish Saxony and be crowned king. The normal rules of the game are kept except that you can found different manufacturing corporations whose products can subsequently be turned into victory points. The game is over when a player achieves 10 victory points.
Offensive in Chemnitz
The main point of this scenario is to establish Chemnitz and populate the city. The normal rules of the game are kept except that as the game progresses, players can obtain postcards of historical buildings such as museums and recreational facilities. These postcards can later be exchanged for victory points. Also, the role of the robber is given to Karl Marx, the infamous founder of communism. The game is over when a player achieves 19 victory points.
