From Wolf Project

Revision as of 14:30, 7 March 2012 by 192.162.19.21 (Talk)

Welcome to the current version of the Wolf Project wiki, currently a pilot project designed to ease transfer of information about the Wolf Project between members and to prospective members.

As of this version of this page, this project has not been agreed to by the Wolf Project membership, and all material should be considered impermanent until it is consented to. Kye has copied only the wolf image at the upper left and a few tiny bits of text from the script and Michael's site, all for mockup purposes only--he or others can remove them if desired.

5qU1xk Really informative article post. Really Great.

Editing

It's easy to add new pages and information--just look for "edit" buttons at the top of the page, or click through a red link to go right to the editing for that page. To create new pages, create a link to the new page (done like this: [[Moose Rock]] for a page about Moose Rock, preferably in the appropriate section in the link list), save the old page with the link, then click through the (red) link and add information to the new page.

To learn how to edit things in more detail, click "help" on the left sidebar or go to Help:Editing. Don't worry, it's very easy even for the non-tech savvy.

Access

Right now, the wiki is set up to allow anyone to edit or view it. If we decide we want more privacy, we can require users to register and have a username and password (which are useful anyway to sign your changes).

The username for the administrative account is admin, the password is the first line of the "Wheel of Life" chant (O Yan Do...), all lowercase, no spaces. Please create your own account rather than using the admin account for editing.

But What About Our Rights?

The Terms of Use (also found at the bottom of this page; to view, requires you to create an account, which takes ten seconds and no personal information) state that the company hosting this wiki, editthis.info, doesn't acquire any rights over submitted content.

Is it free?

There are no costs, but we can only upload 25 MB of content unless we start making links to other sites (which might not be a bad idea anyway, although 25 MB should be enough for the near future). The company makes its money through the Google ads you see at the bottom of some pages.

Another option to get more storage: we could switch from this site to the same software using a project member's computer as the host. This would be less linked to an external company, but would be more work to set up and might involve expense for that member.

Things to do

  • Create pages!!

Ideas for pages

  • Clan pages
  • History of specific wolf years (if this is deemed not too much information)
    • Could include members who came on different years, notable events, focus on encounters from year to year, etc...

Pages Needing Work

Other optional things to do

(these are left over from the wiki creation software, can be removed once finished)

  • To increase the amount of space you have for uploads, add links to http://editthis.info from external sites, and go to the Link Quota Page to increase your uploads quota.
  • Edit MediaWiki:Sidebar to change the navigation menu
  • If you are feeling adventurous and know a little about web design you can edit the javascript and css to the Header to change the look of your wiki.
    • You must log as admin to do this
    • Whatever you enter in this page will be added to the html in the header after the standard style sheet, so you can override styles.
  • Read the User's Guide for other usage and configuration help.
