Welcome to Wizards' Forge

This wiki is designed as a place for the collaborative exploration of life, the universe, and everything. It is currently under revision.

Meeting every Monday at 4PM at the bat cave until further notice.

Project Management

I stumbled on Trac an open source software project management system, and started thinking about tools we might want to use to aid with our Hands-On SIG. BTW, I am using the name Hands-On SIG for our Monday afternoon group, but am open to suggestions for something different. As I see it, the group is mainly for hardware intensive projects but could also include software projects that would be difficult to integrate with regular SFVLUG meetings. As I said, I just stumbled on Trac and have no specific reason to promote it over any other management tools other than it is written in Python and I understand Python much better than I understand Perl. Please feel free to comment and/or post links to other tools.

After Second Meeting

There was some confusion about the meeting schedule this week of our second meeting of the Hands On SIG. I think that it is in the interests of the SIG that we have a consistency and have the meeting every Monday unless notified to the contrary. If I have to sit and play video games all by myself I am making a commitment to be there every Monday from now through July. I have looked at the calendar and have no birthdays, anniversaries or any other conflicting events.

Here are some bullet points in regards to the SIG that come to mind:

  • While at this point in time I am the only one that is essential to be present it would be beneficial to the success of this SIG if everyone else could make attendance fairly routine.
  • I am willing provide some basics in the way of beverage and snacks. I'll provide somethings like coffee, iced tea, cookies and cold water. It is not required, but would be nice, for others to help out or agree make similar contributions.
  • Talk is going to be needed in the beginning but we all need to remember that the purpose for having the SIG in the first place is to get our hands dirty and do things that would be impossible to do at a regular LUG meeting.
  • Access to the shop need not be limited to just computer stuff.
  • If anyone needs to store personal materials at the shop remember there is limited storage space and the shop needs to turn back into a garage before leaving.
  • I can't be responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged materials left at the shop.
  • If you want to bring a friend, significant other or any non-member of the SIG please clear it first and be sure they bring a folding chair and any other personal comforts.
  • Don't use any tools that you don't have expertise in using.
  • Any injury, even if not caused by you is your responsibility. When working with tools or just watching there is a risk for bodily injury, and even death.
  • We all need to work to minimize risk of injury to ourselves and to others.
  • I can assume no responsibility for injury it is up to each member to provide their own health care.
  • There may be risk of exposure to dangerous materials and toxins. Don't use any materials that contain unknown substances. Some materials in the shop area are old and may have been produced without using modern health and safety standards.

New Beginning

Hey guys here is a site we can use for collaboration on our new venture.

I'll soon be working on building out the basic framework. I'll do as much as is practical but I am going to need everyone's help to make this work. Please help keep the energy flowing by making continued contributions.

Now is the time for input on design. Please post ideas and suggestions right here or on the discussion page on the second tab above. In a week I'll start seriously working on actually building some of the features we have discussed. --Admin 20:02, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
