My Initial thoughts about biocitn were the effective loss of CPU cycles or should I say wasted CPU Cycles.If for example the CPUs were working on problems like protein folding or something that would have a direct benefit for society as well as mining for non existant or even some kind of tie in between the both, as a whole it would be a much cooler project.

Ailsa, you are right about MOOC not a community in a sicrtt sense. In this CCK11 MOOC more than 700 people do follow the course. But a small circle of people in MOOC is connecting and discussing. In real life it is the same: in the village I live in are about 2500 inhabitants, and most of them I do not connect to. And still the village is a community, I think. Depends on definition of community.+1
