Quake 1 map sources released (11 October 2006)
For the Quake 1's tenth anniversary Quake 1 map sources were released under GPL.

Quake 3 source code released (19 August 2005)
On August 19, 2005, id Software released the complete source code for Quake III Arena under the GNU General Public License. The id Software maps, objects, textures, sounds and other creative works remained under their original license.
Quake 2 source code released (21 Deceber 2001)
The full source code to Quake II version 3.19 was released under the terms of the GPL on December 21, 2001. Version 3.21 followed later. The id Software maps, objects, textures, sounds and other creative works remained under their original license.
Quake 1 and QuakeWorlds source code realeased (1999)
The source code of the Quake and QuakeWorld engines was licensed under the GPL. The id Software maps, objects, textures, sounds and other creative works remained under their original license.
