Does this page regard a totally decentralized method, or is it also appropriate to discuss semi-centralized methods? --Andy753421 06:14, 18 February 2007 (EST)

Reclaim the WWW: This is a great idea, infact it is how the web was originally envisioned (the first web browser even came with a build in WYSIWYG html editor). There's a few concerns I have however:

• Security and user identification: This could possibly be solved with OpenID.
• Searching: Search features would have to be able to scan all the databases or rely on crawlers, this would cause its own problems. Also, Google works by the number of links to a particular domain, hence the reason Wikipedia shows up at the top so often. If it were decentralized then search engine ranking would crash.
• Management and credibility: There should probably be some way to ban users, block IP's and so forth, that could be very difficult to do with a decentralized system. --Andy753421 06:14, 18 February 2007 (EST)

I think the VMWare idea has some good and bad points. It will be important to have an easy to use package, but my experience with virtualization says that it would simply be to much of a burden on resources to have an entire guest operating system running. Installing the VMWare player would also be just as hard as installing a traditional client of some sort. --Andy753421 06:14, 18 February 2007 (EST)
