Requests for block

Abby Italia

  • User:Abby Italia. This is the username of a known sockpuppeteer (if that's even a word) and vandal from the Simple English Wikipedia. However, the original username had no space in it. This indicates that it is not from the user that originally made the account, and actually an impostor (people know how to type their own usernames, think about it). Only edit is to support Sir James Paul in the RfA, saying that he "founded this wiki" - an argument commonly used by James. James does know of the user, as we have discussed the actions taken in the past over on Wikipedia. James has used sockpuppets in an RfA before, but he is also familiar with the CheckUser tool implemented on this wiki so there will probably not be an IP match. If (amazingly) it is AbbyItalia and you don't mind giving her a second chance, she can log into her Wikipedia account and email me to confirm.

I'd like to suggest blocking this account as a sockpuppet, but not blocking Sir James Paul himself. Despite his recent actions, his intentions are good and I think that he could do well for this project. James, listen to people's suggestions even if they don't match your ideas, and don't resort to stupid things like this. Archer7 13:07, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Block the sockpuppet, and if it is Sir James, he should be banned. Qwerty 13:39, 12 February 2007 (EST)
I've given myself checkuser status to figure out what's going on. This is only temporary. ForestH2 15:52, 12 February 2007 (EST)
I've removed checkuser status but I am bit uncertain about this. I don't want to reveal who's who (I know now) but I need to know if Abby Italia is the Abby from the Simple English Wikipedia. Then I will reveal the results. I highly suggest that we de-checkuser Sir James Paul, btw, so now you know just a tiny bit more on the checkuser results. ForestH2 16:07, 12 February 2007 (EST)
I am not Sir James, I am just here to help. --Abby Italia 16:20, 12 February 2007 (EST)
The checkuser results may have yield something else. ForestH2 16:33, 12 February 2007 (EST)
So you're saying it is Sir James? Qwerty 16:50, 12 February 2007 (EST)
Possibily. I need to know AbbyItalia's Simple English Wikipedia's IP address and then I will say my results. ForestH2 17:16, 12 February 2007 (EST)
Was AbbyItalia a known sockpuppet of Sir James at Simple? If not, then that user's IP there is irrelevant here. Either AI's IP here matches Sir James' IP here, or it doesn't. Qwerty 17:45, 12 February 2007 (EST)
Archer7 can answer that. The info is, that the IP's are so close together that I can think further investigation is needed. They are within what, let's see, 25 points which is very supicious. The user's IP there can tell us if Sir James Paul is a sockuppet there and here. ForestH2 18:35, 12 February 2007 (EST)
Sounds more like simply editing from the same school system or "neighborhood" of IPs, if you ask me. Perhaps a confederate, rather than a sock? Dunno. Qwerty 18:47, 12 February 2007 (EST)
I've done a background search on the IP and is not the same school system. I habe my own theory about James, and I still believe it could be a sock. Though a confederate could be an idea. ForestH2 19:03, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Two points:

  1. If this user is a sock of Sir James Paul, then he should be indef blocked. As noted above, he has used socks before, admitted it, and knows it is wrong. Even if the user is a meatpuppet, a shorter block might be warranted if involvement by Sir James is shown.
  2. I'm not comfortable with the fact ForestH2 unilaterally gave himself checkuser power in order to investigate this. It should be a community decision who gets to wield that power. (My vote would've been Archer, since s/he has bureacrat status at simple.wikipedia, and related history to this issue).

Being within 25 points can mean it's entirely different, but often it's the same range. You need to do a background check on them. I'm willing to take the CheckUser permission to try and sort this out with the minimum of fuss, but I have no problems with ForestH2 running the check either. Archer7 05:21, 13 February 2007 (EST)
It was only temporarily and I have noew de-checkusered myself. A checkuser result now shows the IP's are different, so I think maybe something's going on, where they changed it so we wouldn't find out they are sockuppets. Considering your offer on running the checkuser. ForestH2 08:13, 13 February 2007 (EST)
