BookCrossing conventions have been held in various countries around the world since 2003. Local BookCrossers congregate to share their passion, typically releasing books around the city and participating in activities such as flashmobs, trivia nights, discussions, and award ceremonies. Conventions have gained an increasingly international flavour with many BookCrossers travelling long distances to attend.
[edit] List of BookCrossing conventions
The first convention was planned for 17 April 2004 in St Louis, Missouri. The date was chosen to mark BookCrossing's third anniversary. However, BookCrossers in Christchurch, New Zealand, learnt of this and held their own convention on the same day, and so because their time zone is eighteen hours ahead of St Louis', the first BookCrossing convention was actually held in Christchurch.
