How to Cast a Play
From Wikiact
(Redirected from How to cast for a play)
[edit] Intro
Casting a play is a really hard thing to do, you don't want to leave anyone out, but you have to make the best decision for the show, so, how, are you wondering, read this article to find out!
[edit] Steps
- The first thing you do is audition everyone. (You should bring a pen/pencil and some paper to take notes.)
- The best way to pick charecters is to listen and watch for these things:
- Loudness. You have to make sure the people sitting in the seats in the back of the theatre can hear the actos.
- Charecter. What it means to get in to charecter, tell the actors to really act like the person their reading for (Or portraying.).
- You need to look for things off stage too. Are the actors behaving? Are they having fights? (Kids and adults a-like have problems.)
- Have little warm-up excersices. Get their voices warmed up, and their bodies streched, that's the best way to "Wake the up", and wait their voices up.
- After you audition the actors, it's time to decide. This can be the worst part of any play/movie. If you took notes on the actors, divide them up, and put each of them on a pros-and-cons list. Mark of the charecter with the least lines (As they say, "There are no small parts, just small actors".) first, and keep going, when you get to the big speaking lines, it might be a bit hard, just trust your gut, and go with what you think will be the best for the show.
[edit] Warnings
- Don't ever cast on favorites. (Or favoring.) This will make you look bad, and it's not fair to the great actors, if you chose a person who's "Okay".
