ReDiscovery is a playlist of unofficial but high-quality fan-made remixes of Daft Punk's Discovery album that were NOT created but were chosen by DJ Nerd42.

The goal is to have one high quality remix per song on Discovery and then release in an easy to download, easy to burn / print format.

Unknown to me at the time this project started, "DJ Nada One" created another "Rediscovery" album.[1] It is far too late to change the title of ours now at this late stage but he at least deserves a link. To distinguish between them, DJ Nada One's work has no capital "D", (Rediscovery) - this playlist has a capital "D". (ReDiscovery)

I have decided to do a trilogy of these playlists. They will be called:

  • EXTRA CREDIT - fan remixes of Daft Punk's "Homework"
  • REDISCOVERY - fan remixes of Daft Punk's "Discovery"
  • ANDROID AFTER ALL - fan remixes of Daft Punk's "Human After All"

Just to clarify one more time, none of this was created by DJ Nerd42 - I only chose a playlist from among existing remixes by others I found online.

Now that the project is released, these ideas are only still here for archival purposes

General Vague Guidelines

These are not solid rules but are factors that influence my thinking and track selection.

  • All mixes must be absolutely on beat and on pitch, and must not suck.
  • None of the tracks can be by DJ Nerd42, who is the totalitarian dictator of this project and gets to choose what goes and what stays. (Suggestions and submissions are always welcome of course!! But you might lose your head!)
  • None of the tracks can be unmodified official mixes released by Daft Punk. (such as the ones on Daft Club or the various singles) This is not "warez" - its more like fan fiction.
  • Tracks should predominantly feature the Discovery track they're representing.
  • Preferably, not more than one track should be by the same remix artist.
  • I would prefer tracks that aren't featured on Robot After All for various reasons but will use them if I have to. (That is not meant as a negative review of their work - you should definitely check it out)
  • It would be nice if the tracks sort of fit in with the general pattern / mood, which means they should probably contain a large dosage of the stutter edit technique.
  • I am definitely using Revolte's "Voyager" remix. Submissions for Voyager remixes are pretty much closed. Revolte's remix kind of inspired this whole project.
  • It would be cool to have more tracks that put clean lyrics that don't suck over tracks that were instrumental-only on Discovery.
  • Cover versions are at a disadvantage - this is a remix project not a cover project. To get a cover version on here it would have to be really really cool. (This is partially in response to the avalanche of fairly good Aerodynamic chiptune covers)

Challanges facing this project

  • Some tracks (mainly Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger) have had so many excellent remixes that it's hard to choose just one.
  • Some tracks (High Life, Superheroes ect) have so few (if any) remixes that it's hard to find even one.
  • Some excellent remixes are rare or no longer available for download.

Artwork

Here are some ideas on what, if any, artwork the album should have. One or more of these ideas could be combined.

"White Album" idea

Where Discovery was black, ReDiscovery should be white. The same Daft Punk logo on the cover could either be put on a white background or all the colors could be inverted. Sadly, they all really suck.
