EditThis.info:Vandalism reports

From EditThis.info

Please report vandals and cases of vandalism here for the convenience of the administrators in working to control such damage and protect and improve this wiki. Each report should include:

  • The alleged vandal's username or IP address, and
  • A link to the page that was vandalized.
Please be certain that the user and incident you are reporting is a case of vandalism and not just a new user experimenting with the wiki software.

Categorize vandalism reports according to the type of vandalism, as described under the following headings. (Many of these definitions are taken directly from Wikipedia:Vandalism. If the vandalism you want to report doesn't fit into the categories below, please see the Wikipedia:Vandalism for other possible categories of vandalism that might be added to those listed here.)

Adding external links to irrelevant sites (e.g. to advertise one's website), generally to promote a commercial interest or scam.

Profanity, graffiti, random characters, and other nonsense; creating nonsensical pages; etc. Please note that the addition of random characters to pages is a common way that new users test edit and may not be intentionally malicious. Someone may want to make a Bad Jokes and Other Deleted Nonsense page, but watch out for any encouragement to vandalism.

Page blanking

Removing all or significant parts of pages, or replacing entire established pages with one's own version without first gaining consensus.

Page moving

Changing the names of pages (referred to as "page-moving") to disruptive or otherwise inappropriate terms.

Link hijacking

Modifying internal or external links within a page so that they appear the same but link to a page/site that they are not intended to (e.g an explicit image; a shock site).

The Wiki of the Month is on the front page and can be seen by anyone. The WOTM template can also currently be editted by anyone, RobKohr should protect the page.—Brendan (talk · contributions) 11:46, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Roman Empire

I'm a sysop (the only active one) at the Choose_Your_Own_Adventure wiki. A group (or maybe just one person) calling themselves the Roman Empire have taken to vandalizing the wiki on a near-daily basis. I block their names and IP addresses and revert their edits and they keep coming back using new names and using different IP addresses. I can't monitor the site 24/7. Anyone have any advice on stopping their malicious crusade? --Platypuz 20:10, 5 December 2007 (EST)

I think you need more sysops. Maybe I could help stop the Roman Empire vandals. Dagoth Ur, Mad God 16:59, 22 September 2008 (PDT)
