Being surrounded by several powerful countries Elled had no choice but to be ready for war. While at first they were allies with Felina for a short while in the First Kraggi War, Because of attacks on scouting forces only one survivor ever returned - Captain Saral. At first this was considered to be an understandable mistake, but continual attempts to reopen diplomatic overtures failed. This could only mean one thing to Elled. The catkin had declared war upon them. Since the catkin were powerful both technologically and magically, Elled negotiated a truce and eventually a secret alliance with Gal-Zabor. This has not been entirely welcome with Elled's populace -(see Ash Faction).
Having discovered what the catkin do to captives, Elled now considers this a war of species survival and hopes to persuade the other human goverments of this truth before it is too late. Despite the fairly convincing evidence Elled has presented, most goverments are ignoring it. Either not believing, or wanting Elled alone to take the blame...
