There are, of course, both men and women vorarephiles, and prey, predators and observers are all found among both genders. However, some vorarephiles are attracted only to types of vore involving members of a certain gender performing a certain role. These preferences are typically abbreviated as follows:

  • f/m, where the predator is female and the prey is male
  • m/f, where the predator is male and the prey is female
  • f/f, where the predator is female and the prey is also female
  • m/m, where the predator is male and the prey is also male

These preferences are often connected to sexual orientation. For example, a heterosexual woman who identifies as prey may be most attracted to m/f type stories and artwork.
