Forum:New stuff
From Vaporstory
I have two general announcements to make.
First of all, I have noticed that the site seems to have become virtually inactive. I'll be perfectly frank with everyone who's still here: this is the first site I have ever created, and I don't really know how to run a website. I've been winging it this far, but it doesn't seem to be working. One of the biggest problems is a lack of people, which is why I am putting out this offer: anyone who can bring in five new members (who identify themselves as having been brought in by the person via a message on my talk page) gets a promotion to sysop. (I can identify IPs, so don't try sockpuppetting.)
Another big problem is that the site seems to be heading in far too broad a direction in its content--people are writing on large scales, about countries and historical trends and the like--and they lose interest, because, unless you're a statistical historian or something like that, it's quite boring. Well, I started the site with the idea that we had to define the world itself and then work our way down, from broad articles on countries to tiny articles on little fantasy adventures and stuff like that--the stuff you see in books, or movies, or--dare I say it?--video games. And it seemed good at first, because we were defining the world well, but it didn't go down in scale quickly, and I think that's mostly my fault for not explaining where we were heading.
So from this point on, I am encouraging the creation of what I call "tiny articles," or articles on seemingly unimportant subjects; stuff that, if it really existed, would be called "non-notable" on Wikipedia. Write an article on a high school in Senzanya, if you like! You can talk about a character based on you (name must be changed, of course), and adapt it to fit the world. With the creation of an article defining the major species of the world, which I was waiting for Magichimp to write (I know him in real life) but wrote myself to finish the defining of the world, we have a framework for any small-scale article we might want to write.
Here we go! This is where things'll start to come together, because this is where we'll be able to show Vaporstory's true potential: the potential to tell both a grand epic and a fun little story at the same time, and tie all of its parts together into one beautiful whole.
If there's anyone left on this site, please feel free to comment or ask questions here. --Wehpudicabok--talk-- 00:22, 29 April 2007 (EDT)
