Ryan William Howson Rodrigues (born April 20, 1974) is an American lawyer and politician. He served as Mayor of Atlanta from 2010 to 2018, and previously as Atlanta's District Attorney (2006 to 2010). He was also Assistant to the Secretary of Defence, from 2019 to 2020.

Early Life
Ryan was born in Atlanta to Alberto Howson, a retired Spanish ambassador who worked for the United Nations, and Cristina Rodrigues, a Spanish environmental lawyer. His family is distantly related to many politics.
Ryan was good educated by his mother, since his father was often away from home, and after graduating with high marks in 1992, he entered the Georgia State University, where he studied Law. It was then when he was signed by David Nahmias, Deputy District Attorney, to become his Assistant Prosecutor. During this three years, Ryan and Nahmias became good friends. In 1996, after getting the Law degree, he was promoted to Prosecutor.
Career
In 1998 he switched sides and worked as Public Defender for two years, but soon went back to the Prosecutor Office as Deputy District Attorney, again under his friend David Nahmias, recently elected District Attorney.
When Nahmias retired in 2006, he was listed as a potential candidate for District Attorney, and was endorsed by the retiring lawyer. He was convinced to run by Jennifer Bush, a young Democrat politician related to the Bush family who had become his closest friend. He defeated Scott Jenkins and soon married to Jennifer.
Ryan served 4 years, but decided not to seek re-election in 2010, since he had become increasingly interested in politics.
He instead decided to run for Mayor as Democrat against Republican Casey Wutland. Ryan won and was seen as a moderate man who won many votes from both sides.
He was re-elected in a landslide election in 2014, defeating Republican Rick Juliany.
In 2018, Howson ran for Southeast Senate, being defeated by 2 terms Congressman Alexander Allum. He was then appointed by Chris Bridges to be the Assistant to the Secretary of Defence, and position he would leave in 2020.
Personal Life
Ryan Howson met Jennifer Bush in 2005, but it wasn't until after the 2006 District Attorney election when they began dating.
They married in 2007, and have a son, William (2007), and a daughter, Isabella (2017)
