Jackson P. Rockefeller was elected the Senior Senator for the Alleghenies region, which includes Ohio and Pennsylvania, in 2010. He was re-elected for a full term in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, Rockefeller served as the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate. In 2015, he became Senate Majority Leader of the first filibuster-proof majority in decades.

In 2016, Rockefeller announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for President.
