Open Seats

Esther Cullen (D) of Bluegrass

Senate Minority Leader Esther Cullen declined to seek reelection to the Senate in order to run for President. The open seat was widely expected to produce a competitive race. Obediah Maysfield won the Democratic nomination after primary challenger Jonathan Tickle withdrew, while Angela Alcott won the Republican nomination virtually unopposed. However, shortly after winning the Republican nomination, Alcott dropped out of the race, and Maysfield won unopposed.
