Early Life and Family

Childhood and Education

Patrick was born to Eugene and Ida Larson in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1949. Eugene had been in the Air Force during the early part of the war until he developed severe asthma and was honorably discharged. Eugene was the owner of a local chain of diners and Ida worked as a tour guide at the Capital. Patrick grew up in the city, and after graduating high school attended Macalester College. He studied political science and received his Bachelors degree.

He was accepted into the Law School at the University of Minnesota.

Family

Patrick became engaged to Tina Kay, a high school friend, in 1974. The two were married later that year. Tina was a advertising executive. The two had their first child, Brenna, in 1979. Their first son, Todd, was born 4 years later, and Lisa was born in 1988. Their youngest, Pete, was born in 1992. Today, Brenna is a pediatrician in Minneapolis. Todd works for the Minneapolis public works commission, Lisa is in graduate school at Chicago Loyola, and Pete is attending college at Concordia in Moorehead.
