Early Life
Aliestair Wharton was born to Richard and Ellen Wharton in Kowloon in Hong Kong prematurely in 1958 while they were attending the marriage of a cousin of Richard's. His life was very much standard for any aristocrat but he was quite interested at an early age in Barry Goldwater and news of the American election in 1964 which started the young man on his quest. As a young man he became intimately familiar with books like The Road to Serfdom, Conscience of a Conservative, The Constitution of Liberty , and Law, Legislation and Liberty . After working through Eton and Oxford his becoming an academic early in the Thatcher years was of no surprise to any of his family and friends. He continued his work as a Academic in Conservative party. He would have probably never crossed over from Academic to Politician if it was not for the John Major years.
Political Career
Following Black Wednesday he left the formal party structure and went through university partnerships teaching at schools in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and South Africa. It was during this time period his passion went beyond simply Thatcherite Conservatism. When Ian David Smith suggested he run for the Parliament in his constituency he was willing to stand up and move into the Parliament. As an MP he was known for trying to synthesize all the factions of the Conservative party under one person though he was considered a rising star in the Thatcherite Faction. RIsing in the ranks until he became the Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. 2009 was supposed to be the rise of the Cameron era in the British Conservative party, but events changed.
